Dick, the leader of the DTO, took his primary instrument, tenor saxophone, at age 11. Dick mastered the clarinet, piano, flute button box and banjo. Dick is a retired music teacher of 34 years.  He has achievements to his credit including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame, as well as the 2003 Best Recording for his solo recording endeavor Richard Allen Michael Tady Presents: The Greatest Slovenian Polka Hits.
