Blind since birth, Rudy Hodnik was always interested in music. His exceptional musical talent and precision perfomances resulted in an unmistakable top sound in the polka world; an unique Slovenian Style straight from the heart. Altough Rudy played all types of dance music, he is best known for the Slovenian style. At very early age, he learned the melodies of traditional Slovenian folk songs. Rudy started his musical career at age 12, when he received his first button accordion from his parents. Later he switched to the piano accordion. In the 1950’s he formed his first orchestra. His playing engagements included radio and television appearances, as well as polka masses, customary polka feasts, weddings, dances and night club perfomances.  Waukegan, Chicago, and Milwaukee have been former homes of his just like other talented musician as Ray Romaro, Joe Lukic, Fred Ulrich, Bill Race, John Dudas and Grant Kozera. Rudy included on his albums many original polkas and waltzes. The most famous being the Waukegan Polka, wich has been recorded by Frankie Yankovic and many others.

Rudy Hodnik is blind sinds zijn geboorte. Rudy was altijd al geïnteresseerd in muziek. Zijn uitzonderlijke muzikale talent en precisie resulteerden in een onmiskenbaar kwaliteits geluid in de polka wereld. Een unieke Sloveense stijl, rechtstreeks uit het hart. Hoewel Rudy allerlei dansmuziek speelde, is hij toch het bekendste van de Sloveense stijl. Op zeer jeugdige leeftijd, leerde hij de melodieën van traditionele Sloveense volksliederen. Rudy begon zijn muzikale carrière toen hij twaalf jaar was. Hij kreeg toen z’n eerste button box accordeon van zijn ouders. Later schakelde hij op piano accordeon over. In de jaren '50 vormde hij zijn eerste orkest. Zijn werk omvatte radio en tv shows, polka party’s, feesten, bruiloften, dansavonden en nachtclub optredens. Hij woonde in Waukegan, Chicago, en Millwaukee. De begaafde musicus werkte met Ray Romaro, Joe Lukic, Fred Ulrich, Bill Race, John Dudas en Grant Kozera. Rudy schreef voor zijn albums vele originele polka’s en walsen. Het bekendste nummer is zijn Waukegan Polka, die ook door Frankie Yankovic en vele anderen werd opgenomen.
