Biography

 

 

 

 

The Swingin’ Slovenes, a top polka-band in Easern Ohio was lead by Ted Zalac. The original bandmembers are: Ted Zalac, piano accordion - button box. Norm Kobal, sax - clarinet. Lou Vukovinski, drums. Dwight Gobely, banjo. Ted Zalac jr, bass. The music of the button accordion style of Ted Zalac’s outstanding group became an important commodity in populair polka musical styling. People acclaimed the sound and a new approach especially to slovene music. With great succes and a new style of Slovenian polkas developted and became a household world in the polka field. Ted brings old and new polkas, he had arranged. Outstanding polkas and waltzes, composed by Slak, Hoyer, Avsenik, Lausche, Bass, Groller and Zeitz.        

 

JOHNNY KRIZANCIC & TED ZALAC

Johnny's memory reprised a recording by a German children's choir that he hadn't heard since 1946. Fleshing out the melody and writing Croation lyrics, he made "Zivila Braca, Ziveli Sestre" the title tune of his 1981 release. Again looking to fill an open slot, Johnny translated "Zivila Braca, Ziveli Sestre" into English, recorded it with Ted Zalac & Swingin’ Slovenes and included it in his 1984 album Going for Gold. And gold is what he got as "Long Live Our Brothers" spread like wildfire among Cleveland-Style orchestras. Recognizing a sure winner, Frank Yankovic used "Long Live Our Brothers" as the lead tune on his “70 Years Of Hits” album which won the first ever Grammy Award for a polka album in 1986.

Lou Vukovinski, drums. Dwight Gobely, banjo. Ted Zalac jr, bas. De muziek stijl van ‘de button box van Ted Zalac’s groep werd een belangrijk punt in de populaire polka stijl. Mensen prezen het geluid en de nieuwe aanpak van met name de Sloveense muziek. Het werd een groot succes die nieuwe stijl van de Sloveense polka's. Het werd zelfs een standard in de wereld op polka gebied. Ted brengt oude en nieuwe polka's die hij van een nieuw arrangement voorziet. Hij bewerkte polka’s en walsen van o.a. Slak, Hoyer, Avsenik, Lausche, Bass, Groller en Zeitz.

Johnny herinnerde zich een opname van een Duits kinderkoor, hij had het voor het laatst gehoord in 1946. Hij gaf opnieuw gestalte aan de melodie en schreef een Kroatische tekst. Zo ontstond ‘Zivila Braca, Ziveli Sestre’ het titel nummer van van zijn album uit 1981. Daarna bewerkte Johnny het nummer nogmaals. Hij vertaalde ‘Zivila Braca, Ziveli Sestre’ in het Engels en nam het in 1984 op met Ted Zalac & Swingin’ Slovenes voor zijn album ‘Going For Gold’. En goud is wat hij kreeg als ‘Long Live Our Brothers.’ Het nummer werd een standaard nummer voor Cleveland style orkesten.
