Polka & Praise

LET THE GREAT HOSANNAS RING
At this holy sacrifice
We gather to praise thee
Our redeemer King
Bread and wine our sacrifice
We offer to You alone
Let great hosannas ring
Frank Perkovich was born in Chisholm, Minnesota to John
and Johanna Lesar Perkovich, the youngest of their three sons. Both John and Jennie
were recent immigrants, part
of a large wave of southern Slavs. The section of Chisholm where Frank and his family lived was called pig town because so many families raised pigs. It was on the southeastern side of Chisholm, bordered by 5th and 6th Street on the south. One of Frank’s jobs as a boy was to help raise the pigs. Frank had also a paper route for the Mesabi Miner. Frank attended Roosevelt and Washington Grade Schools, and then finished at Chisholm Junior
and Senior High School.
